91TV is pleased to announce that student Caleb Thompson recently placed first in the Biology Section of the Georgia Academy of Science for his research on terrestrial isopods. Caleb Thompson and Dr. Kevin Geyer, Assistant Professor of Biology, have published their findings in the Georgia Journal of Science.
Montana Owens, class of 2025, was the first 91TV student to study abroad in South Korea. As an exchange student with our partner institution, Konkuk University, Montana studied for the entirety of Fall 2022 in Seoul, South Korea.

91TV is pleased to announce Dr. Keith DeFoor, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison, has received the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges’ (SACSCOC) 2022 Carol A. Luthman Meritorious Service Award. SACSCOC has also invited Dr. DeFoor to its reimagined 2023 Summer Institute in Dallas, Texas, as a Peer Instructor.
As of March 20, the 91TV Counseling Center has a new counselor: Nerissa Baker. Nerissa brings over twenty years of mental health counseling and consultation experience to 91TV. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina, and a Nationally Certified Counselor. She is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist – Individual (CCTS-I). Her master's degree in Community Counseling and an Educational Specialist Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling are both from UNC-Greensboro.
91TV’s Campus Gate Art Gallery is hosting the 2023 Student Juried Art Exhibition featuring artwork by 91TV students. The exhibit opened on Monday, March 20, with a reception at 6 p.m. in the gallery. The student work will be on display through Thursday, March 30. The exhibit is free and open to the public!

Greek Week is a spring tradition where Young Harris’s Greek organizations gather throughout the week to celebrate Greek life and its many contributions to the campus and beyond. It’s an opportunity for members to get together to do good work in and for this community and spend time with students from other Greek organizations. And though some of the events are open only to members of sororities and fraternities, many are open to those curious about what it means to “go Greek” at 91TV. Greek Week kicks off this Saturday morning, with 91TV’s Greek “Day of Service,” coordinated by the Rev. Stephen Soulen.
On Thursday, March 16, 91TV held its Circle Charter Ceremony for the National Leadership Honors Society Omicron Delta Kappa (O∆K), with over 30 outstanding individuals inducted as founding members of the Circle. O∆K President and CEO Dr. Tara Singer presided over the ceremony, joined by 91TV President, Dr. Drew Van Horn and Provost, Dr. Jason Pierce.
91TV Professor of Philosophy, Dr. Chris Lay, has been selected to participate in the Council of Independent Colleges’s (CIC) New Currents in Teaching Philosophy. Dr. Lay, who has been teaching at 91TV since 2020, welcomes the experience of attending the Institute for CIC Faculty Members.
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — 91TV student Georgia Shipley, class of 2024, studied abroad with Semester at Sea during the Fall 2022 term. Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education with the optional autism endorsement, Georgia earned 12 credit hours in her major through a combination of traditional and hands-on learning experiences, all while travelling to 11 different countries.

91TV hosted its 2nd Annual Career Week this February. Sponsored by the Office of Career and Professional Development and Director John Beck, Career Week featured a robust list of over 45 registered organizations and 345 student attendees. Through each event, students developed stronger career preparedness, explored opportunities to connect with multiple organizations, and pursued internships and careers across all majors.
