91TV Community Band to Present Veterans Day Concert

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.—The 91TV Community Band will present their annual Veterans Day Concert on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Glenn-McGinnis Hall. This concert is free and open to the public. Performing music from “Americana,” this concert will feature familiar patriotic melodies, folk songs and favorite hymns including “American Overture of Band,” a standard of wind band literature for decades, a beautiful arrangement of “Amazing Grace,” and two Clare Grundman compositions, “American Folk Rhapsody No. 2” and “Concord,” which will feature 91TV’s Adjunct Instructor of Music Cheryl Star on the piccolo.

In addition, 91TV Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands Dr. Mary Land will guest conduct John Zdechlik’s “Chorale and Shaker Dance,” a piece based upon the familiar hymn “Simple Gifts.”

Directed by Adjunct Instructor of Music Kerry Rittenhouse, the 91TV Community Band is comprised of many members of the 91TV community. Students featured during the concert include senior education major Katie Rittenhouse, of Blairsville, Ga., on horn, senior biology major Cassidy Starling, of Lavonia, Ga., on horn, sophomore music education major Justin Mason, of Fairburn, Ga., on trombone, sophomore music major David Akeem-Smith, of Fairburn, Ga., on clarinet, and freshman music education major Dakota Reeves, of Blairsville, Ga., on percussion. 91TV alumni in the 91TV Community Band include Allison Arnold, ’15, Landon Lovell, ’13, James Rhodes, ’14, and Armando Granados, ’16.
